Sulzer diesel engine and BTH generators 1960.

This diesel engine and its associated British Thomson - Houston electric generators is from a class 24 Bo-Bo diesel electric locomotive. The diesel engine is of Swiss design but was built by Vickers Ltd at Barrow - in - Furness under a licence agreement with Sulzer Brothers. The engine has 6 cylinders and develops 1,160 hp. It was directly coupled to the electric generators, which produced a direct current electrical supply to the motors mounted on the locomotive bogies. The electric motors moved the locomotive. Above the generator is the turbo charger, driven by exhaust gases, which supplied air to the diesel engine at above atmospheric pressure to increase combustion efficiency

  1. That diesel engine and generator are quite large, isn't it? Of course look what it powered. I really like the variety of carts and wagons you have here. For whatever reason I really like the 3 wheeler. Also, the clocks. Great looking, especially the green stand alone. Kinda weird, but the first thing I noticed about the LNER lory is how skinny the tires are. I know. Weird. But,if you look at both of the delivery lories you have here, the tires are skinny. For weight loads, I would think they would be a bit beefier. Oh, well. And that mailbox looks cool. Wouldn't that look good in your den or living room? Great stuff here. I do like trains and the sundry stuff you find around them.
