St MARY and St PETER WADDINGHAM-LINCOLNSHIRE UK.

The original Anglican parish church has long ago perished. It was replaced by the church of St Mary and St Peter. The original church was dedicated to saint Peter only. The current Anglican parish church is dedicated to saint Mary and saint Peter. This church has a 13th century chancel arch and a tower that was added in the 15th century. This church was largely rebuilt in 1858 - 1862. The church seats 220.

Sanctus Bell.

Tradition suggests that the bell dates from the 15th century and was originally in St Peters ( demolished in 1687 ). The book ` A Lincolnshire life ` states in chapter 6, at the reformation when ornaments of the church were destroyed there was at Waddingham St Peter ` one sacringe bell wch honge at a maypole toppe `. This infers that the maypole was very close to the church, if not actually in the churchyard. However, it may have hung over the west gable of St Peters or the chancel roof of St Marys. Its founder is unknown.

  1. You did it again! Older churches with arches. Lots of arches inside and out. It is a beautiful church, Les. Combine the great stone work and the marvelous wood fixtures on the inside makes this really outstanding. And the surrounding area is really nice as well. Beautiful setting. Even though it is not nearly as old as some of the others you have shown me, it is still wonderful! As I like to say, my friend, you have done good here!!!
