CARNGLAZE CAVERNS.

Carnglaze Caverns is near the village of St Neot, on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, England, halfway between Liskeard and Bodmin. This is a former slate mine where slate was both quarried and mined underground in Cornwall. There are three caverns of cathedral proportions, hand created by local slate miners. On entering this cavern you go about 150 metres into the hillside and 60 metres below ground, via a flight of 60 steps. In the lower chambers you will find the subterranean lake with its crystal clear blue/green water. The caverns are at a constant 10 degrees centigrade. The first of the three caverns is called the Rum Store which was one of the nations safe storage areas during world war two. It is now used as a 400 capacity concert venue with outstanding acoustics and atmosphere, offering a wide range of musical entertainment and events throughout the year.

  1. Looks like the family is having as much fun as you are here, Les! This is really something else. I've been to the Carlsbad Caverns and Sonora Caverns but they are nothing like this. I think it's great that they have concerts and other events in there. The lake is beautiful. And as you said, crystal clear. You really did yourself proud here, Les! An amazing area to go to. This truly is a beautiful thing. Thanks!!!
