DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK and PONIES.

Situated in the south west of England, right in the very heart of Devon, Dartmoor is an ancient landscape of stunning views. Dartmoor's National Parks landscape is very dramatic. It has striking granite tors and steep wooded river valleys, swathes of heather covered moorland to tucked away villages and hamlets. It is a land of contrasts. Dartmoor has it all and plenty to discover, fascinating history, ancient stone circles and stone rows, hut circles, bronze age archaeological remains, a huge diversity of wildlife, flora and fauna. A truly awe inspiring place.

DARTMOOR PONIES.

The Dartmoor pony is a horse breed that has lived in south western England for centuries and is used for a variety of disciplines. Because of the extreme weather conditions experienced on the moors, the Dartmoor pony is a particularly hardy breed with excellent stamina. Over the centuries it has been used as a working animal by local tin miners and quarry workers. It is kept in a semi-feral state on Dartmoor. Dartmoor ponies are small but strong. All the ponies are free roaming on Dartmoor and are owned and protected by Dartmoor commoners. It is illegal for visitors to feed the ponies although it is a common sight to see ponies being fed snacks through open car windows.

  1. That Dartmoor NP is a fantastically beautiful area! Wow! The green rolling hills along with the granite sticking out just makes you want to lay down in it and take a nap. Now those ponies are neat looking. You can tell they are strong with their low slung stocky build. Also beautiful animals as well. Great photos, my friend! Beautiful!
