Mainland Britain's most southerly point, where the Atlantic meets the English Channel and home to Lizard Lighthouse ( will cover this at a later time). Lizard Peninsula is stunningly beautiful and is unique. Almost surrounded by the sea, the peninsula stands alone from the rest of the county. The peninsula presents a rugged face to the elements. The air here is crisp, clear and unpolluted by industry. The rocks and cliffs of the coastline offer shelter to the tiny fishing villages huddled into their coves, looking now much as they did centuries ago. It is an ancient place, where history is indelibly inscribed on the landscape. The Lizard Peninsula has been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is recognised as being of international botanical importance and here you can find 15 of Britain`s rarest plants. The sea off Lizard Point is also one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. There have been many shipwrecks around these rocky shores over the centuries, which is why the Lizard Lighthouse was built to guide sailors safely past and to warn them away from the hazardous waters off the point.

OK. I'm gonna say WOW!!! When I read books about the sea and in them they talk about rugged and rocky shorelines to be avoided, this is what I picture in my mind. I can see where that area was definitely hazardous to the old wooden sailing vessels. I imagine it could probably play havoc with more modern vessels as well. I have a feeling that folks that live around there have heat going of one kind of the other going pretty much all the time. Looks like the air there would chill ya down to the bones! But, it is definitely gorgeous there. Again WOW!!! Love it! You did mighty good here. Waiting on the lighthouse, now! Keep it up, Les!!!
